SOPMOD ECW Stock
A General Purpose Stock
The SOPMOD ECW Stock has been tested in the field and available in our inventory for a while. It is a solid all around option for a General Purpose Rifle (GPR*) and its durability has gone unquestioned. It can even fill the role of a Special Purpose Rifle (SPR**) with its Enhanced Cheek Weld (ECW). The ECW is a thicker portion on the stock allowing more of your cheek to rest on the buttstock, enabling you to create a more consistent cheek weld, and therefore creating more consistent accuracy. While not allowing adjustable stock height, as long as you have a AR-15 co-witness optic mount, you will be fine for cheek height. That being said, everyone has a different body and an adjustable cheek riser may be needed. We do have adjustable cheek riser stocks available in the store, but this article will focus on the SOPMOD ECW Stock.
Covering Key Features
Coming in at 9.2oz with the battery tubes removed (10.8oz with the tubes), it is a fairly lightweight stock for its size. The rubber buttpad could best be described as a firm soft rubber. It isn't squishy or too grippy, but it also isn't hard. The buttpad is also removable, and exposes the rear storage, if your buffer tube has a storage compartment. The stock fits perfectly on a 29mm Mil-Spec buffer tube, with a very small amount of wiggle.
Sling Attachment Options
The stock has 2 QD (Quick Detachment) cups to provide a mounting spot for a QD sling, or two fabric holes, so you can weave your sling end through the stock. My preferred way to attach a sling to this stock is by weaving the APC Sling through the loophole and around the top. The Sling features snap buckles to allow the sling to be easily removed, say for bench shooting. By allowing the sling to pass along the right side and over my shoulder, it prevents the sling from bunching up when mounting the rifle. It also allows the user to shoot weak handed when switching shoulders for CQB type work. I recommend throwing a wrap of electrical tape around the buttstock to collect dog hair and prevent the stock from catching on your clothes (Pictured below)
Review
Overall the SOPMOD ECW Stock is a great all around option, if you don't mind slightly increasing the weight for a better cheek weld. It is a rugged, simple and ergonomic design. The stock provides many options for sling attachments and fits easily on any 29mm Mil-Spec buffer tube. You can check it out here in our shop with this link
